At the latter stage due to ill health and lack of man power lost all his fame. His elder son Mustafa (Mastan) was not able to carry out his mission. His other sons were very young and could not cope up. His built was heavy but then he was PARALYSED. He was recovered fully and gone very slim. He had very good reputation in the district. Always inviting people for reciting quran in circle and calling people for pray to Mosque. I remember he was always after Shaikhu Rasul to come for prayer to mosque.

Once we were going in the wedding of Imam Abdullah with Khatija (Khatu) to Varacha by Baladia Gadi and while coming back we had a race of all the baladia gadies who were in the barat. He was in charge of our gadi. He pushed the stick with a nail (parani) so hard in the leg of bull which had broken the leg of a beautiful bull. He had his own bhuri godhi and while going to panjroli as per his habit of pushing the nail with stick he had broken the leg of this godhi. He then called a shepherd from Aneeta who recommended of giving this bull a dose of roots of Dadamni plants which he got from vasrai near kim. The broken bone took some time to heal.  G.H. MALEK (MOHAMMED): I was born in Mikindani, Tanganyika ( now Tanzania ) on 11th November, 1933; and came to Dungra with my mother some time in 1939. I went to the Primary School in Dungra. That school was located in the middle of the village in the house which is now occupied by the family of Mustafa Abbas. There were no benches or desks and we sat on the tat cloth which wee carried to schol from home.  The benches and the desks arrived during my last year at the school and, as far as I am aware, are still being used. The number of students were about 35 who were tought by one teacher.

In 1944 I went to Anglo Urdu High School in Hansot and remained there till 1947 when I moved to Surat and attended I. P. Mission Boys High School till 1949 when I went to Rander. In 1949 I moved back to I. P. Mission Boys High School and remained there till 1951 when I passed S.S.C Examination. Then I went for a brief period to M.T.B. College in Surat until I left for Dar es Salam in Mid 1952.

In Dar es Salam I worked in the Judicial Magistrate's court and also did some miscellaneous jobs while preparing to take Cambriudge "A" level exams before going to England. Having tasken the "A" level exams, I left for London in July, 1955.

In December, 1955, I took "A" level exams of London University and then had to wait till October, 1956, to go to college. Meanwhile, I employed my time working for British Railways and doing some other jobs to make some extra money.

In October, 1956, I joined University of London, King's College, Faculty of Law for LL.B. course which I completed in JUne, 1959 with Honours. During my stay at the college I was elected, first a General Representative on the Colege Union Executive Committee and, then as President of the Faculty of Laws Students Union. I was told by the Dean of trhe Faculty that I was the first foreigner to be elected President of ther Union.

While studying for LL.B. at the University, I was admitted to Middle Temple. I was exempted from Part I of Bar exams because I had obtained Honours in LL.B. so that I could sit for Bar finals exam straightaway which I did in December, 1959, and passed at the first attempt which was unusual at that time. Having done that I attended Post Finals Course, conducted by Inns Of Courts,  for three months; took a holiday in Scandadanivia; left for Bombay on 16 September, 1960, by ship from Southampton; arrived there on 4 October, 1960; and immediately left for Dungra to a great reunion and welcome after absence of about nine years.

Salad days were soon over and it was time to start working! I, therefore, got myself enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of Gujerat but, finding the environment in Ahmedabad stifling, soon moved to Bombay and got myself enrolled as an advocate of Bombay High Court ( Original Side ).

In 1964 I left Bombay and moved to Karachi where I was enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of West Pakistan and later as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In November, 1990, I was appointed a judge of the High Court of Sindh and retired from there in November, 1995.

Since retirement from the Bench I have been practicing as an advocate of Supreme Court and doing such other legal work as arbitration and consultation. I am a member of the Board of Governors of College of Business Management and am expecting to be appointed Director General of Sindh Judicial Academy which trains newly appointed judges.

All that remains to be said is that I married Mumtaz ( daughter of the late Zainul Abedin Munshi ) in 1975. She practices as dental surgeon in Karachi. We have one son, FArrukh, who is about to complete his "A" levels.

AMEERUDDIN RAHMATULLAH:  He was one of the family members of Rahmtullah who died at his young age of 21/23 years due to Typhoid on 10.10.1953. As I understand from Mohammad (Balu Bapu) that he was his colleague in early school days in 1935/36 when a School in Dungra was established. His other colleague was Imam, Hussain Gulab. In early days when there was no School in Dungra they used to go to Panjroli and used to eat their Lunch on Pond under the Banyan Tree with what ever food they brought with them from home. He was not educated and left school after his primary school and was helping his father in his farming. At the later stage he was in Bombay some time in 1948/49 with Shaikhu Mama with Hakim and Sons, but left very early as the work was not suitable and came to Dungra to join with his father. He was good friend of Ismail Munshi and Vali Bhura who were Primary School Teacher in Dungra and used to cook their food. They still remember him. He was also a good friend of Jamalia Koli of Pundvai. In 1953 he fell ill due to Typhoid fever and died on 10.10.1953. The writer his brother was studying in Hansot. I had asked permission from our Supervisor C.K.Qazi to let me go to see my ailing brother but he refused and said kiya “ tu jakar thik kar dega “ Although he allowed permission to Mohyuddin Abbas to see his brother Mohammad (Bapu) to attain his marriage. At that time brother Amiruddin asked about me as to why he did not come but given the reason that due to preliminary exam of Metric he was not allowed to leave. Allah SWT blesses his soul and gives him a top place in Jannat-ul-firdous Ameen

Stations of Life Journey

Up to ten years of age, my childhood and primary School life passed on the great native land of Dungra.

My School mates and friends were Abdul s/o Mastan Malek,Ali s/o Ibrahim Malek, Abdus Samad s/o Mohammad Malik, Salahuddin or Sallu s/o Ibrahim Rasul, Sayed Mohammad Ali ( Headly), Alav s/o Ghulam Raja, Farid s/o Hussain Munshi, Usman s/o Mohammad German, Alav s/o Karim Rasul, Shamsuddin s/o Sayed Habib (Ambheta) Siddiq s/o Mastan Abbas, Mastan s/o Abdu Bawa, Parag s/o Mulji Parmar, Dalpat s/o Mitha Parmar, Nathu s/o Vallabh Parmar.

I have preserved our group photograph of the year about 1953, and then our School was at Mastan Abbas House

I studied class fifth in Anglo Urdu High School Hansot till 1957 when Okadiya was a Head Master and Rasul TT was a supervisor at Boarding House. Nizam Rahman Malik, Shabbir Abbas, Ali Mastan Malik, etc were my seniors in School as well as in Boarding house and we were known as Dungarias.

After a year I left hansot and studied in Panjroli School for two years then I studied at V.S. Patel High School Kosamba where I passed my HSSC with good number of marks in March 1965.

I wanted to join college for higher education but poor condition of my parent prevented me. I had to compromise with the circumstances and for some time worked as a diamond cutter in a diamond factory. Then I got a job for the post of a cashier in the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation on 4.12.1967. For some time here I worked in Nagrol Depot which is near to Vapi and Valsad on the border of Maharastra State. I was transferred to Zagadiya S.T.Depot. Here I got married to Hanifa Banu on 24.5.1969. My both son and daughter were born here in 1970 and 1972 respectively.

Then I prepared myself for fulfilling the unfilled ambitions of getting higher education in order to achieve goal. I joined four years Bachelor Degree Course through Gujarat University as an Externals Student. I successfully completed the course along with the job of Rs 90. The Bachelor Degree in Arts Faculty with the subject Economics as Principal Subject and Psychology as a Subsidiary.

Then I prepared for double graduation. I took decision to get another degree in Law. My decision was impressed by one great personality that is my cousin brother Barrister Ghulam Mohammad Malik Ex Judge of High Court of Sindh Karachi. Right from the beginning he was my Idol. I love him; I like him and respect him from bottom of my heart. It was my dream to fly with him in the sky of achievements but alas! Because of my adverse circumstances my dream were never fulfilling. Anyway I worked hard for four years and got second bachelor degree in law. It was a degree for general LLB. Again I continued and completed two years special LLB degree course and further in year 1982 got another degree in law with the subject Industrial and Labour Laws as special subjects.. With this qualification I continued serving in S.T. Corporation Legal Department, side by side I worked as legal advisor of Gujarat State Transport Workers Federation. I have been remained as president of various Trade Unions of Surat and Bharuch districts.

I completed my 58 years in 2005, since then I do full time practice particularly in District Industrial Courts and Tribunals also. I am actively associated with Trade Union with other Social activities too.

SAB THIK THAK CHALTA HAY-DAL ROTI KHATAY HAIN-OR PRABHU KE GEET GATAY HAIN.

Dear Abdus Samad Uncle

I think that my story and your story tally with each other up to much extent. We have sailed towards opposite directions of flow. Now you are on a Beautiful Shore and I am on dutiful Shore

Pratav-e khuur se hai shabnam ko fanaa ki taalim

MaiN bhi huuN ek inaayat ki nazar hone tak

(-Pucho ke kiya guzri qatray per gohar honae tak.)

Partave khuur-Sun’s rays

Before finishing this letter let me put few lines over life sketch of my beloved valeed-e Mohatram Mustafa Rahmatullah Malik.

From record it can be assured that his birth year was 1902/1903, he passed away on 20.8.1976 at 9AM. He is buried in Qabarstan of Dungra behind the grave of his father Rahmatullah Karim Malik.

He had studied up to Matric at MMP High School Rander. Then he went to Dar-as-Salaam in East Africa with hi elder brother Hussain. He remained for four years from 1930/31 to 1933/34. Both brothers were good for Book Keepings of Accounts and worked hard, saving every penny to support their family in India.

In 1932 my grand father was passed away in Dungra, therefore, at the order and advice of his elder brother Hussain he had to leave Dar-as-Salaam in 1933/34 for Dungra to look after the affairs at home. Because of his over soft, polite and docile nature and for his honesty he failed in his mission, and his decision of returning to native land proved not wrong but very damaging too. After his returning to dungra with in two years separation from family took place, since then he lived much suffocated life with all the hardship of life. May be thinking of his days passed in foreign land where he was living in comfort and enjoying his young age.

Well may be jo Allah Karta hae oos mae bhi Allah SWT ki bahtrai hoti hae. Every hardship on Insan, in a way it is a Sadqa of life to gain forgiveness at the day of judgement and to gain mercy from Allah SWT.Insha’Allah

.

He was very knowledgeable, very intelligent, very social, very soft hearted and very mild nature man. He was very handsome, tall, and slim and fair looking in complex like European. He was a master of all best qualities of best man.

He was elected as first Sirpunch of Dungra in Panchayati Raj. For years he served Masjid and School and Cooperative Society of village Dungra. The first wire fencing work of Qabrastan and cleaning up was done in his Trusteeship. His name deserves a special space in History of Dungra. He was the only one who preserved all the old documents which are published in the History Book. The person who had such record was Rasul Patel but when he passed away the record has been destroyed. Also as I understand that Ibrahim Rasul had such documents but when he was away these documents were destroyed by his wife Noorjehan.

His immediate friends in Dungra were Rasul Patel, Ghulam Gati, Abdur Rahan Patel, Abbas Karim (Imratiya), Mulji Naran, Ramji Naran etc.. When he passed away my cousin Barrister Mohammad had paid his homage in these words...

Karachi 7.9.1976.

I have just learnt from Bavaji’s letter of the sad and untimely demise of Lal Bawa. From the report I had heard of his condition. This is probably the most merciful thing that could have happened to him. I have always though unfortunately circumstances prevented him from achieving his true state and position. It is extremely sad that such a gentleman had such a painful end. For my part I shall always remember him, with affection and admiration

With best wishes

Mohammad.

And at the other hand the love and affection of my father for barrister Mohammad was not less than any thing. The below line of his letter dated 4.8.2956 speaks it self.

Dungra 4.8.1956

Abdul Kader Patel

Mohatram Aziz A.Samad Shaikh (UK)

Your nephew Al-Nasser came to me and requested me to write my biography. He waved his hands and called me to give this message. On this topic I have given my enough thought and now I have pleasure in giving my life story as under:-

Name: Abdul Kader son of Abdur Rahman son of Gulab.

Mother: Khairan Bibi and Name of Grand Mother –Jinu.

Date of Birth: - 20.5.1934. Place of Birth: - Dungra.

Although our sir name is Shaikh but we are known as Patel because of our long service of Police Patel in village.

It was unfortunate that my mother was giving birth but children could not survive. When I was born I was adopted by Ayesha Begum wife of Sayed Abdur Rahim who was paternal uncle of Sayed Bapu when they were used to live in Dungra. They were very near to us like brother to my father. My father used to call her Bhabi Aaansa as it is a tradition that people used to call Ayesha as Aansa in villages. When I was born the message was conveyed to her and she came rushing to pick me up. She adopted me in exchange of a Bowl full of salt, and said if he lives long then she will return me back to them. By the grace of Allah SWT I was growing and Alhamdolillah nothing happened to me.  She returned me back to my parents and as promised the bowl of salt was returned to her. At that time perhaps their son Ileemuddin was born.

This news of mine was conveyed to our Peer-v- Murshid Bawa Abdur Rahman Shah of Ambheta in person by my father. Baba asked my father “Abdur Rahman what name had been given to your son “My father said we called him Abdul Farid. Baba said yes the name is very nice, but do you know that Farid Bawa was very jalali and if his name was not registered in birth register then you should change his name to Abdul Kader. In those days Register of Death and Birth was maintained by my father, therefore the year has been changed to 1930 instead of 1934.

When I was five years old I was admitted in Madressah. At that time Loban Mullah from Hansot was a Pesh Imam and a Muddarris in Mosque and Madressah. There was no School in Dungra and Boys were going for study to Panjroli. Hussain Munshi Chacha opened the School in Dungra at the place where Mastan (C.I.D)’s house and all were admitted in Dungra. The classes were from one to four. In my class we were four students (1) Mohammad Malek Barrister (2) Mohyuddin Abbas (3) Ratanji Ramji Parmar and (4) Myself. Together we passed four classes.

For further study we went to Hansot in June 1944 to be admitted in Anglo Urdu High School. With me Ratanji was also admitted and for that purpose my father and Ramji Naran came to Hansot. I was doing my boarding and lodging at my Phoopi Khairan Bibi wife of Hamad Fojdar’s house in Maru Phalia and Ratanji was staying at his phoopi’s house. We were both had a first class result at Anglo Urdu, Then it was only one school and all Hindu Boys used to study at this school. But when L.C. Seth High School was opened Ratanji left for that school in spite our telling him not to change the School. Other Kharwa and Harijan boys stayed at Anglo Urdu... Ratanji had passed his SSC Exam from L.C. Seth High School.

I stayed up to five standards at my Khairan Bibi’s house. In those days Nabi Dada with his other brothers Mehmood, Rasool, Mohammad was living in Amali Phalia.  Mohammad and Rasool were two years senior to me and Mehmood was one year senior to me in Standard VI. Then I preferred to admit in Boarding House when C.K. Qazi was Supervisor and Head Master at Anglo Urdu High School. He used to say “Doongariay sub ke sub hoshiyar hain magar thoday badmash bhi hain”... When I had passed VI class and joined VII class most of the teachers had left the School. In there places Vassi from Surat Mission School and Chodury from UP came.. Vaassi was little bit mad and Chodury did not know Urdu. He was teaching History in Hindi and Vassi was teaching English, Maths and Science, but not spending full time in class and often left class very early. In those days Gulam Patel from Hathoda was with me, we left Hansot to join Anglo Urdu School at Surat. Along with us were Rahimbhai and Mehmood and later on Abdullah Munshi had passed his S.S.C. Exam from this School.

The education here was very hard and we failed in our preliminary exam and were not allowed to fill the form for exam, therefore I had to return home and that next year I was admitted at Navsari Banatwala High School. Where Abdul Kader Sirpunch from Dungra, Abdul Gafoor from Kapalsadi, Ibrahim Mamaji from Mahavej (Now in Germany) and Ghulam Ahmad Patel from Pandvai were present... I was in Hostel and had passed my S.S.C. in year 1952.

I was married to Khaleda daughter of Rasool Patel and sister of Ghulam Ahmad in 1954. In 1956. I went for surveyor job to Baroda and I was selected in my interview. After two months of training I was transferred to Himmat Nagar of Dist.Sabarkantha. When I reached there I was told to report at Vadnagar’s Surveyor Camp and on reaching there it was evening. My father was with me. He stayed for a night and next day morning he left for Dungra and I joined with my group. I worked for some days and respectfully I left the job and came back at home. After persuasions and looking at our poor position I took courage to join again. I was readmitted. For two months I had done field work, and then I came back to Himmatnagar where I worked for 12 months under Mr Shaikh. On Diwali vacation I went at home and found every thing okay so I went again to resume my service. I had to work under another Boss and the work was given to me was not to my liking, but had to do it along with other colleague Thakor and Patel. I was the only Muslim in group. I was getting wages Rs.117.50 and out of that I was sending Money Order of Rs.100 to Home. Then I got the news of my ailing father. On reaching home I found that there is no hope of his surviving and he passed away in 1956/57 (Inna lillahi va inna ilahi rajeoon).I was very confused that should I continue my services or stay at home. At that time Ramji Bhana was looking after my Home. He also advised me to leave the job and take over the responsibility of Home affairs. Ramji Bhana then left leaving to me with my young brother and sister. In 1959 I was given responsibility of Police Patel and in that year Nizam Rahman (Bana) was died by drowning in Pond. This was the first incident of Police Patel’s job, but my father in law had given me great support.

Mr Hussain Malek was a Chairman of Amod Group Society, who had given me a job of Store Keeper in 1975. I worked there for eighteen months. In 1961 and 1962 my two sisters got married and I was a father of three children. Still I had a responsibility of two brother and two sisters, but then we lost our beloved mother. In 1967 my brother Iqbal got married with Sara daughter of Abbas Karim but the marriage was broken with in six months. Then he got remarried and after a birth of a daughter he left home to reside at Padar. I was passing my days with my young brother Babu and two sisters and I had four children. At that time Government had introduced a law of Family Planning Operation. Nurse came on visit and our name was noted down. At that time my younger son was six months old. Well then I was admitted for eight days in Civil Hospital Bharuch. With us were Rehmat Mastan Malek, Rabia Ibrahim and Ruqaiya Kamruddin.

There after brother and sister and a daughter got married in 1980. Our elder son and young brother got married in 1985 and left to live separately.

Then I was a Mutavalli of Mosque along with Nabi Dada, Salamatullah, Rafiq Malek and Mohammad Sayed.  I was become a Sirpunch in 1982, before that from 1975 to 1981 Abdul Kader Malek was a Sirpunch and his deputy was Natwar Ramji Parmar.

In 1976 a Glass Factory was established where my son Salim and brother Babu got job. In those days the daily wages was only Rs.4, but now Masha’Allah they are getting Rs 10,000. Both have settled down with their families amicably. My son Javed got married in 1995 and living separately. My younger son Rafiq got married in 2000 and staying with me and doing service. I have passed the life facing many problems. First my hair gone grey, then my sight gone weak now using spectacles and have cataracts. I got only six teeth left. From 2006 I have lost hearing power and for some one to communicate with me has to write down on a paper or have to come near to my ears to speak. If I understand they will get reply otherwise Summum bukmmum? I got hearing aid but have no difference.

It is now very confused life and I can not help it.

Well this is my life story, and I pray to Allah SWT to keep me alive on Islam and take me away with Imaan Ameen Suma Ameen

With all the best wishes to people of our Dungra and May Allah SWT protect them from all evils and guide them to the straight path of Islam Ameen

Abdullah Munshi

Azizam Abdus Samad

Previously we had a long telephone conversation. Whatever the knowledge I have which has been given to you and I hope it would have been some used to you for History of Dungra.

To day I got your message through Ahmad for my biography. This is as under:-

My actual name is Abdul Kader but in those days my grand father Abdullah was passed away, therefore in his memory I was called Abdullah. Since then I am known as Abdullah. I was born on 20.9.1930 at Pandvai, because my mother Hajra Bibi was from Pandvai. She was known as Haji and was from Chand family. She passed away on 16.1.2003 at the age of 90 years. (Inna lillahi va inna ilahi rajeoon)... My father Hussain Abdullah Shaikh for entire of his life was better known as Hussain Munshi. He died on 27.4.79 at the age of about 73 years... He was the pioneer of School in Dungra and in Education Field his name will be remembered for ever. Many students of his time now have gone abroad and prosper and they are still remembering his teaching abilities. He had a great love of Persian and Urdu literature and a wonderful understanding of philosophy. We had three brothers: Abdullah, Farid and Moin and five sisters. We do not have whereabouts of middle brother Farid and the younger brother Moin is living at Amod Patia with his family. My elder sister had passed away and my other four sisters are happy in their respective home with their families.

My basic educations were in our native land Dungra and have studied up to four classes. My class mate were Sayed Bapu, Mehmood Abbas, Imam Abdullah, Mohyuddin Rasul (Amod), Akbar Gulam, and girls were Khairan Bibi Rahman (Bana), Maryam Bibi Rahmatullah Malek, Mehmooda Bibi Ghulam Rasul Malek and Ruqaiya Bibi Rahmatullah Malek.. Our School was at Mastan Abbas present house. After primary education for two years I was in Anglo Urdu School Surat.  Mohammad Abbas (Balu Bapu) and Mustafa Ahmad Bhura (Mehmuda’s husband) from Amod was also in same School.

Financially our position was poor therefore I left my study and stayed in Dungra. Here I was doing labour work in our Fields.

But my ambition for education took me to Ambheta, from where I had done my Final Exams. From Ambheta and by influence of our Marhoom Murshid Abdur Rahman Bawa I went to Ahmadabad to join Gokuldas Patel School. Here I had done three years course in only one year among 500 students and obtained first class rank. Then I went to Madressah School in Mangrol for one year and after that I went to Hansot to join Anglo Urdu High School in 1947/48. Balu Master was our Persian Teacher and by chance he was my khaloo. My mother and my khala both were from Ameer Khan Saheb’s family. In those days the administration of the School was in hands of Mustafa Gulab who introduced a Card System for the Students. According to the marks obtained by the students they were given Golden, Silver, White or Green Cards and the result were improved much. I left Hansot and again went to join Anglo Urdu School Surat, from where I had passed my S.S.C exams in 1950.

On passing this exam I went straight to Zagadia to join Diwan Dhanji Shah High School as a Persian Teacher. After one year I joined Mamletdar Office in Hansot as a Clerk for Rs.50 per month and then for one year at Dediapada.

At last in 1952 I was recruited in Bombay Indian Railway Department. Here I worked for seventeen years and then shifted at Surat Railway Station and worked there for 20 years. During this period I had received good promotion. I was retired in 1988.

Since then I am living my retired life at Kosamba. While my life was travelling for its livelihood from place to place during this period I got married to Husna Banu from Olpad. We got two sons and two daughters, both are married and living happily with their families.

I had a wonderful time at my young age and Allah SWT has given me every opportunity to be proud of. Now I am at the old age with ups and downs towards my health but by the grace of Allah SWT I, with my wife, am living peacefully and we are very much thankful to Allah SWT.

I have studied Sufiyana Adab i.e. theology of Sufism or mystics and literature in deep and had spent great time with Mian Dada of Pundvai who was a wise and a noble man. I have a great influence of his companionship; therefore I always keep myself occupied in spiritual recitation and worshiping of Allah SWT. I pray to Allah SWT to accept our prayers and forgive our bad deeds Ameen and I also pray to Allah SWT to keep us alive on Islam and our end with Imaan Ameen Summa Ameen.

Well to end my history here is my choice of stanza of shair:-

Meri dastan-e hasrat voh suna suna kar royay

Mujhay aazmanay walay mujhay aazma ke royay

And further to end this chapter

BADAY SHOK SE SUNTA RAHA HY ZAMANA

HUM HI SO GAYAE DASTAN KAHTAY KAHTAY.

With all good wishes and May Allah bless you all in life and hereafter Ameen

Sama

If you are not one with the Beloved

Seek!

And if you are in Union,

Rejoice!

The musical and ecstatic aspect of Sufism is called Sama. The sufi, while being spiritually enraptured, gives the attention of his or her heart to the Beloved. With particular movements and often special and rhythmical music, he engages in the selfless remembrance of God. In this state, the sufi is a drunken lover who becomes unaware of everything but God. With all his faculties he is attentive to the Beloved, and he has totally given up and forgotten himself.

Not all disciples engage in Sama. It is only given as a practice to some by their spiritual guide, who determines whether it is appropriate for them or not. Sama can be likened to a medicine; it is sometimes prescribed and sometimes prohibited.

Hafez Ghulam Hussain s/o Ismail s/oYusuf Patel

my native land is Ankrod in Taluka of Mangrol about 16 km away from Kosamba and about 11 km from National Highway No.8. It is a small historical village where I was born on 16.10.1940/14 Ramzan 1359AH.  Our sir name was Qazi but our elders have called themselves Patel therefore the Qazi surname was disappear from our family.

Our ancestors were doing agriculture farming.

At the age of six I was admitted in Prathmic School and had passed seven classes. Final exam were given in 1965 at Mota Mian Mangrol. I had a great interest of religious education which I took from Ankrod Madressa Talimul Islam and finished Madni Course. There after I have taken my hafez course from my teacher Maulana Ishaq Hasanji Darsot who was from Sanjali. I had done my hifz-e quran in about two and half years and I was lucky to have a chance of leading Travih prayers with recitation of quran in mosque of Ankrod. Then I had a chance of leading for two years Travih prayers in Kondh of Valia District. For one year I was at Olpad and for another one year I was at Daily for Khatm-e Quran Travih.

There after I joined the famous Daruloolum Jamia Ashrafia Hussainia Rander in the year 1958. First part and Second part of Persian was completed and then had taken up to second class of Arabic.

After this I had joined Madressa Talimul Islam in Daily in Valia Taluka in 1960. The surrounding villages Pithor, Desad and Zarna had no facilities of religious education and I had served those villages as well. I was there up to 1964 and I had a pleasure to say that with my hand 30 students had done their Khatme-quran and Nazrah.

In 1965 I came to Dungra of Taluka Hansot when Hussain Malek was a Mutawwali and under his supervision I had served this village up to 1974.

From 1975 to 1990 I was at Pandvai about one km from Dungra where 45 students had completed their Quran and Nazrah.

In 1990 again I came to Dungra on persuasions from the people of Dungra and under the guidance of Mutawwali Ghulam Nabi Shaikh I am still doing my job as a Pesh Imam and an Ustad in Mosque and Madressa. I am happy to say that Alhamdolillah 150 students have done their Khatme Quran and Nazrah.

I pray to Allah SWT to make me do this service till the end of life and I pray to Allah SWT to accept my deeds for my forgiveness Ameen.

Abdul Kader Shaikh

He was born in Dungra in the year 1926. His father’s name was Rasool Hassan. His family sharjah is available in document column. However here I am giving brief background of his family. His father Rasool Hassan had one son and two daughters from his first wife Sakina from Amod and after her death he remarried to Bibban from Hathora, from whom he had four sons and two daughters. Out of them two brothers and a sister left including Abdul Kader.

He was the youngest in the family, therefore he was very ladla to his mother and often very shararati and joyful in the family.

Primary education he took in Panjroli in the year 1932/1933. His class mate were Mohammad Abbas (Balu Bapu), Imam Abdullah, Hussain Gulab and Ameeruddin. He was in Panjroli for three classes and then for fourth class he was admitted in Dungra, when school was opened in the year 1935. For fifth class he was admitted in Union High School, Bharuch. At that time his elder brother Abdul Karim was serving in Police Department. He was there up to Matric, but could not pass his exam; therefore in 1946 he had joined Anglo Urdu High School in Hansot. He stayed for six months in Boarding House and then again shifted to Bharuch. At his young age he was a very good swimmer and often go to River Narbada for swimming along with his friend Noor Baig of Atodra. I remember once I had been to Bharuch in my school holidays to visit my elder brother Bashir who was in Police Department, while he was going for swimming he took me in deep water. I was at that time about eleven years old. When his brother Abdul Karim was transferred to Amod Kerwada,

He then admitted in Pioneer High School and was a boarder in Pioneer Boarding House. Here he again failed in his Matric Exam. Then he came back to Dungra leaving his studies.

During those days Ameerudin was his good friend. Ameerudin was his nephew as well as a good friend because of the same age along with Ismail Munshi. Ismail Munshi was a Primary School Teacher in Dungra who was from Kahan (Bharuch). Later on Ismail Munshi immigrated to Pakistan and met him there. Munshi then married to his sister in law Hawa Banu who was from Durban South Africa and immigrated to Pakistan with her entire family members.

He had left Dungra in July August 1948 and immigrated to Pakistan. He was without a job for few months and had joined Habib Bank on 27.12.1948. On arrival at Karachi he managed to live at Malir with few other hansoties as well as Mohammad Abbas was also there in Malir. Then he shifted to PIB Colony. When Ismail Munshi was arrived at Karachi he went in Ghora Gadi to PIB Colony but he was shifted from there to Masamli Road where Abdur Rahim Chacha was staying.

When he was in Dungra he met Abbas Belim of South Africa, who was visiting his sister Khatija wife of Ghulam Rasul Malek. When Abbas went back to Durban at that time a family of Mohammad Hussain was ready to immigrate to Pakistan and had given them his introduction. Mohammad Hussain had a daughter named Hafiza Banu to whom he married in 1951.

Although he was non-matric but due to his hard work and devotion  worked for 43 years from 1948 to 1991 in various capacity as Clerk, Cashier, Officer and as a Manager for 25 years in Habib Bank and at the time of his retirement he was a Senior Vice President. During his career he built his good reputation with the managements, staff and customers.

He was stayed at home for 5/6 months during that time Yunus Habib had asked him to join his new Bank, but had refused him as did not want to do Bank’s job again. However on great persuasion by Yunus Habib He accepted his offer to join Mehran Bank as a Chief Executive. All correspondence in the Bank was done in his name.   The Bank’s reputation was at stake and also due to his ill health he left the Bank after two years of service. This Bank latter on in 1994 was closed down by State Bank of Pakistan.

He received his provident fund from Habib Bank in lieu of his long service in the Bank. He is very God fearing and Masha’Allah practicing Muslim therefore he refused any interest on his provident fund and he foregoes the interest due on it.

He had served the Bank with his sincerity and honestly and with the blessing of Allah SWT he was very contented with whatever the benefit he received from his employers. Though he is unable to cope with circumstances, but he is very punctual with his five time prayer with congregation in the Masjid... As far as the villagers know him he is a punchgana namazi from his young age and Allah SWT has blessed him in all aspect. When ever it was a prayer time he got a habit of going to Mosque to pray his schedule Namaz with Jamat. Only recently due to disability he is praying at home.

He performed his Hajj alone in 1975, and then in 1976 he went again for Hajj along with his wife Hafiza Banu. There after both had performed several Umrah. May Allah SWT accept all his virtues Ameen?

By nature he is short tempered man but often realise his mistakes and makes himself regrettable. By heart he is very mild and very easily mixes up with our people, therefore every body respect him in community. When ever possible he is willing to help poor and needy and often support the local mosques for any financial help. For this reason he is very much respected in local mosques and community.  By the grace of Allah SWT he got a great feelings of his relatives at his native village Dungra and always ready to assist them financially and morally. May Allah SWT accept all his deeds for good cause? Ameen

Allah SWT has blessed him with four daughters, two sons and twenty seven grand and great grand children. Masha’Allah they are all happily settled in their respective home with their families.

The people who have known him from his early life till this age often found him very practical Muslim and we can say that he understands the object of life in this world as per Iqbal’s following stanza:

Mairi zindagi ka maqsad tairay deen ki sarfrazi

Mae eisi liyae musalman mae eisi liyae namazi

I got all his details as per his letter posted on 2.4.2007 and he conveyed his good wishes and dua for the people who have connection and relation with Dungra and a very special message to every body to be practical Muslim according to Quran and Sunnah. May Allah SWT accept his duaa for the betterment of Muslim Ummah Ameen.

Once I was told by the management of Boarding and school at Hansot that unless I pay them some thing I will not be allowed a free ship in Boarding and School. I came to Dungra and on his recommendation I and my father took 40 lbs of Jawar to the house of President of School….

This is not other then your past family tailor by the name B.M.Tailor from Kosamba, saying parnam to you and to your family. When Ahmed Malek told me that he require my side of life sketch to be posted in the History of Dungra, as technically B.M. Tailor is connected in tailoring field. I was very pleased to see that at this age you have great feelings for your native land and I also understand that you have also established a charitable trust in memory of your mother Zainab and my prayers are with you to get every success in your performing this noble task. I salute you from bottom of my heart for this noble act for mankind. I also understand that you had two major operations of your heart and spinal cord and having disability in your legs, in spite you are involved in a community service. I am overjoyed learning all about you.

As you are aware I am involved in tailoring field from the last sixty years, it seems to me that the old memories are born again to give me inner feelings of APNAPAN which is rarely found in this present changed atmosphere. People who understand their purpose of life in this world to respect others and to get respect from them and to serve the one and only God are the true Insan, otherwise there is no difference between Insan and Hewan.

I was the only modern Tailor in those days, knew the style of youngster and senior people. For this reason I was respected and called as their family Tailor, just like a Family Doctor. Our name of B.M.Tailor was very famous from Kosamba to Bharuch and Surat. I am now 78 years old and living my retired life with my Parivar happily and one of my sons is looking after our family occupation of tailoring.

The building of this reputation of B.M.Tailoring Brand was my brain child with my hard work and all credit goes to me by the blessing of God.

With your mother’s land Dungra I had my old connections with old generations since I established my tailoring shop at Kosamba. I remembered I had sewn your father Rehmtu Chacha’s Bundi and Kafni. The following names are in my tailoring lists who were my customers. They are:-

Bana Chacha and his son Mastan, Hussain Munshi and his son Abdullah Munshi, Ghulam Rasul Manjra and his son Abdul Kader, Africawala Hussain Chacha and his brother Mustafa Chacha, Ibrahim Chacha, Shaikhu Chacha, Nabi Chacha as well as their brothers who were settled in Pakistan. I still remembered your late brother Amiruddin with a Master from Bharuch District; I think his name was Ismail Bhai whose garments were also sewn by me.( This was later on confirmed by Ismail Munshi in London that yes BM was his friend and sometimes they went to Surat to see Indian Movie along with Ameeruddin). I believe I might have sewn your clothes as well.

Old generation had old styles. Cotton Jin was used for coat and trouser and a shirt with a loop behind for hanging. There after styles were changed gradually to synthetic, Sateen and Nylon. For shirt double ghoda bosky. Then first it was pure wool used for garments then it was half wool and half cotton or woollen mix with other materials.

First it was a coal containing Iron for ironing garments; the sparks of glowing coal sometimes burns the materials, resulting we have to listen the angry words of customers. If an iron is very hot which makes the garments dull and you can see the visible dark spots of iron on the garments which makes the customer very furious and we have to face the music and rudely behaviour of customers. Well we understand their genuine complains and we have to bear it thinking in mind that customers are always right.

Yes I also remember sons of Hussain Chacha, Doctor Mohyuddin, Mehmood and Barrister Mohammad were also on my tailoring lists. Barrister had to attain High Court at Ahmedabad and he wanted to have white collar a barrister tabs clip to tie, which I made by copying his spare tab and he was happy to see my perfect work in time. Kader Chacha and Ibrahim Chacha’s children were also my customers. Abdul Kader Malek bhai was my friends as well who passed away two years ago.

I am very much proud for the people of Dungra. The old generation were very kind hearted and social in all respect. Now the generation of our age is on the border line as per the following song from Anmol Ghadi.

Kyo.n yaad aa rahe hai.n
Guzare hue zamaane
Ye sukh bhare fasaane
Rote hue taraane
Kisako sunaa rahe hai.n
Kyo.n yaad rahe hai.n

Kyo.n muskuraa rahe hai.n
Dekho agar to samajho
Aa.Nsuu bahaa rahe hai.n
Kyo.n yaad aa rahe hai.n

Kyaa vaqt hai nA jaane
kyo.n hichakiyo.n kii lay pe
Gaate Gam ke gaane
Ham bhor ke diye hai.n
Bujhate hii gaa rahe hai.n
Kyo.n yaad aa rahe hai.n

It was nice to see that Village Dungra had benefited with the education and most of the people had gone overseas for their livelihood and are better of and often takes care of community left behind. In comparison the present generation is looking dull, but managing with the prevailing atmosphere.

I pray to Bhagwan to keep all happy and I also pray to Bhagwan to give strength, health and long life to the people like you who are working for the benefit of Watan.

With this duaa and Namstay to all-

Yours truly,

B.M.Tailor

People of Dubalwada (Adivasi)

In Dungra village there were six old generation family members of Adivasi houses were in dubalwada. They were doing labour work for the community in village. Their names were (1) Manuriya  married to Manki daughter of Mani Dosi (2) Jeevla Zeenia married to Chipli (3) Mota Kilia married to Ramli (4) Babria Vasava married to Makli who had two sons Khodia and Khalpa and a daughter Laili (5) Nana Kilia (6) Chitia, Chandudia and Shankar etc. and (7) Anupia.(8) Kesuria

Kesuria was working with Ghulam Rasul Manjra while his brother Anupia was a servant of Ghulam Nabi Abbas Mustafa.

Manuria’s wife manki was doing house cleaning job as well to bring water from well. Their daughter Shanti and Bhurki were also doing the same job. To Shanti we used to call her Bawalia nu thuthu because of her dark skin.

They were all good people and hard workers. All old people had passed away. In new generation there is no progress. There are still 10/12 cottages or jhoopdies left. Only one man by the name Khalpa son of Babar Vasava had some education and was leader of Adivasi. Due to his bad habit of drinking alcohol he lost his life. He was also not in good terms with other village people because of his alcoholism. His father Babar Wasava had a duty to fill the water in reservoir by fetching water from well by using Baldia fasten with a rope and a big leather bucket.

His duty was also attached with Police Patel and was working as a peon. Government had allocated some agricultural land to him for his service.

Babar wasava was a pipe smoker and had a cut mark on his front teeth due to holding pipe that left a cut mark by constant holding the pipe in mouth.

Manuria was originally from Pandvai who was shifted to Dungra on his marriage with Manki.

Mohammad (Balu Bapu) was saying that the wedding was very spectacular and people were dancing by holding man over their shoulder. Manuria was dancing by holding Manki over his shoulder. Their women were dancing by touching their legs wearing thick bangles (Bracelets on legs).

Once there was a big fight among them and police were called from Hansot. When asked to Laili daughter of Babar Wasava, she said “Hun to kayi nathi janti.”.

Barbar from Pandvai

In the year around 1950 a barber Magan used to come every Friday from Pandvai for hair cutting. It was a custom to gift him Jawar Dal Wheat and Rice etc. annually at the time of season. At eid festival people were also giving some money as an eid gift. He was also cutting hair of buffalos and same razor he was using on villagers. His style of sharpening razor on leather belt was fascinating. In the end he was testing the sharpness by touching his thumb. He died at his old age about fifteen years ago and his son we understand doing his hair cutting job some where.

Bhagat and his son Ramu Tailor- Panjroli

As far as I remember our village tailor was old man Bhagat and later on his son Ramu taken over tailoring job. It was the period of around 1940 on ward. Galis wali chaddi aur kontia wala shirt aur nada wala lengha bahot chalta tha. On those days payjama with stripes (Majarpat ka lengha) was very famous. This was a special dress used for going in wedding. Some time by wearing loongi they were attending weddings. For headgear Jinnah cap was used and some old people were wearing lal turkitopi gondewali. In two three months time pheria’s from kanam was coming for the cleaning of materials.. Fanas per repairing kam ya rungwani ho to zor sae bol tha.. “Chalo fanas rungavi lo, topi dhovadi lo. And also for Churi chaku tez karwalo aur anpnay bartan kalai karwalo…

Harijan: Derhwada

From old generation we have Parmar family of Ramji Naran Parmar, Vallabh Dayar, Devj Cheeba and Narot Kara, only those four or five houses are remained. We can say counting both the families their total members may be about twenty.

If we take a history of over seventy years the following people were the old settlers:-

1 Soma Pitanmbar and his wife Harkhu Bahen and their children Piru Bhai and Parbhu Bhai and a daughter Kanku Bahen. No body has survived and there is no trace of any next of kin. As per Mohammad (Balu Bapu) Soma or Somla was attached as a chakar to Bana Seth looking after his cattle in Sayan as well as in Dungra where Bana Seth had his Tabela for buffalos.

2 Vallab Dayar and his wife Dhanki. She was the first lady sirpunch of Dungra. Out of their four sons Khusal, Nathu, Magan and Balu, two brothers Khusal and Nathu had passed away. Magan is settled in Baroda, and Balu is working in Police Department. Daughter Savita is living in Dungra.

3 Dhanji Kara and his wife Benki and daughter Kashibai had all passed away and there is no home left.

4 Mithia Chiba and his wife Rami Ben, Sons Karshan, Dalpat and daughters Reva and Manki ben all had passed away and house is also destroyed.

5 Devji Chiba and wife Ramli Ben, two sons Ranjit and Thakor and daughter Narbada Ben. Ranjit was a clerk in a Bank. Now he is retired and living in Kosamba. Thakor is doing some business in Kosamba. Narbada is in Kosamba and her husband is in Police Department, Devji Chiba was known as Devla Dunda.

6 Devji Chiba’s brother was Bhana Chiba. No body is left from his family.and there is no property left.

7 Ramji Bhana and his wife passed away.Their two sons Dhansukh Bhai and Dahya Bhai are still there.

8 Naran Parmar had three sons:- Mulji, Babar and Ramla:-

Ramji Naran Parmar had two wives, Mithi Ben and Kaishri Ben. Mithi Ben’s son Ratanji was S.S.C passed and was a student in Anglo Urdu and other School in Hansot. He was a Mamletdar and lastly he was a deputy collector before retiring and was settled in Bharuch. He passed away in January 2007...Mithi Ben’s other son Diyar at present living in Kosamba. Fro Kaishari ben they had three sons:-Natwar, Manhar and Nageen. Natwar is in Dungra doing kheti, while Manhar is in Bharuch and Nagin is in Kosamba in services. Their daughter Gomti is in Bharuch working as a nurse.

In old generation only Ramji Naran was known personality, social and was working side by side with local community and was respectable person. He was also doing a carpenter job and repairing job of cart’s wheel by fitting ring around wheel after heating the iron ring in coal fire.

9 Mulji Naran and his wife Bai Ganga Ben. Their son Parag Bhai was in Bharuch in Police Khata as a Jamadar and passed away. His son is in Police Khata in Bharuch. Mulji Naran was a dharmik man. He was very particular in Bhajan Kirtan with Manjira. Ganga Ben was also doing a daie work for the village. Most of child birth had been done under her care.

While Babar had one son by name Khalpa

10 Another two families Bawji Gadji Parmar and Mavji Gorji Parmar were two brothers. There is no survival left. Mavji was known is Maula. He was jolly as well as alcoholic. When he was drunk, he had a habit of taking out his shirt and with open chest shout loudly that a bomb was blasting in Pakistan and this fellow was walking openly.( Usman Malek of teasing him and making fun of him)

.

Well if we do not mention the name of Somla Bhangi, the history of dungra will look empty.

11 . Somla Mela Solanki Bhangi and his wife Mani Ben. They were from Vemar village of Vaghra District of Kanam. No children. Government had allocated him a Pasayta for kheti which is still there but his hut had been destroyed. At the time of Eid and in Wedding season he used to use his bugle for announcements. He was begging daily for food in village by saying Mairo Saheb. Mairo Nakhi Jajo. He was fond of keeping Bakarian and was saying “Mara paighambar sahib Bakra charta hata tethi hun pan bakario palu Chun…… Jane Kahan Gayae Voh Log...

a. Jaane kahaan gaye voh din,

kehte the, Teri raah mein

Nazron ko hum bijhaayenge..

Chaahe kahin bhi tum raho,

Chaahenge tum ko umr bhar

Tum ko naa bhool paayenge

As per Mohammad Bapu and I remember Devla Dunda had two sons Ramla Dina and Maula. Devla was working in Mumbai with Parsee family and his son Ramla Dina was also with him. We have witnessed Ramla Dina’s wedding. It was celebrated with dance and pipudi. Dancing was done by Bawla and he was dancing with holding a snake type made out of small towel or handkerchief. Some body was playing flute and he was doing a cobra dance.

Bhania and Mithia were two brothers .Bhania had two sons: Ramla was married to Palki and other son Naran was blind due to smallpox.

This Naran had great memory. He can recognise person by his talk. His hearing power was very sharp. He used to go with Salamtullah and Nizamuddin Rehmatullah at midnight for cattle grazing and any Rakhewal or person approaching him gives alarm that some body is coming to alert them.

Ramji’s wife Palki was very nice lady very docile and humble to help others. Mohammad was saying they used to go there for bidi smoking and she was providing asadri ke pattay and tobacco and also burning coal to agnite Bidi.

Ramla was working in Mumbai and when he comes to Dungra he bought a Gramophone of His Master’s Voice. Old Recorded songs were played and we used to go and listen old songs like “Eik Bungla Bane Niyara—Eik sannari ki katha sunatay hai—Bejubawra-Kismat etc.

Once Bhania had sold his Baldia to his brother Mithia. When asked how much he had to pay. Bhania said you are my brother you can give 50 or 60 rupees. On hearing this Mithia said no I will give you seventy rupees only. Every body was laughing on his calculation. He was a simple man to be admired for sincerity.

Circumcision or Musalmani (Khatna)

Most of the circumcision was done by a Muslim Barber used to come from Hathuran. It was over 80 years he was the person performing musalmani to all new born boys. My father Rahmatullah Karim was expert in holding young ones and after finishing the act the barber was spiting on the cut or we can say pichkari marta tha for healing purposes.
