POET HULVI SHIRAZI & AHMEDABAD

HAZRAT SULTAN AHMED SHAH (R.A) BORN IN DELHI ON 19 ZILKAD H 797 DIED H 846 ENGLISH DATE 18.11.1391

Ahmed Shah was a Sultan of Gujarat’s ruling Muzaffarid dynasty from 1411-1442. He founded Ahmedabad and established it as his capital. The city was also called Karnavati an older name. As a commercial centre with chemical and textile industries Ahmedabad is often described as the Manchester of the east because of its booming textile industries.

Ashwal Bhil an Adivasi was the ruler, his place was near the present Jamalpur Darwaza. He was defeated by Karandev and established Karnavati near the Calico Mill site.

Ahmedabad was the capital of sultanate for 162 years from 1411-1573. Legend has it that on the banks of Sabarmati, when Ahmed Shah saw a rabbit chasing away one of his hunting dog, he was impressed by the courage of the small creature and wondered how courageous the people of this place would be. This lead renaming the city after his name. In those days Ahmedabad was compared as the world’s finest developed city. Ahmed Shah’s first capital was Patan then he changed near to Aashaval. As per history of Mirate- Sikanderi Ahmed Shah was the best sultan. In Tabakane- Akbsri he was given a title of “Khuda Yagane Magfoor” meaning whose sins had been forgiven..

At the very first he started building the fort and along with a mosque for sultan’s family.  Adjacent to Aashaval or Karanavati or near by to the bank of Sabarmati River he chose a high plane plot that is why it is also called a Fort of Bhadra.

According to Islamic Tradition the foundation should be with the hands of pious man and in this case for the fort, they decided, to have four pious men by the name Ahmed. (This was written in the Book Ahmedabad ke Aulia). The foundation was led down by the following four Ahmeds:-

(1) Hazrat Shaikh Ahmed Khattu Gunj Baksh Sirkheji (R.A.).

(2) Sultan Ahmed bin Muzaffar Shah the Sultan himself. He was also a murid of Hazrat Khattu Gunj Baksh

(3) Qazi Ahmad. He was also a murid of Hazrat

(4) Malik Ahmad whose tomb is near the Kalupur Topiwala bridge

The Sultan’s of Gujarat had great love for the Akabirin Ulmas accordingly Ahmed Shah had invited Hazrat Qutub e Aalam and said the following shair:-

QUTUBE ZAMA NAIMA BURHA BASTMARA

BURHANA E HAMESHAN CHUNAMAR AASHIKARA

The poet Hulvi Shirazi had written the History of Sultans rule of Gujarat in his Book “Tarikhe Ahmed Shahi”. The articles of this Book are available  in Mirate-e-Ahmedi and Mirat-e-Sikandri. Hulvi’s Tarikhe Ahmed Shahi is not available but the poet had written on Ahmedabad which was quoted in Mirate Sikandri as under.

CHUNIN GUFTAN HULVI E SHIREEN SUKHAN
KE AFSHAND SAD DURJ DAR HAR SUKHAN

KE CHAND KE SHAH GARDUN KHARAM

SHUDAH BAR LABE RUDE SABAR MAKAM

Hulvi the poet in his sweet oratory, who was in one word piercing hundreds of pearls sang one day when the Shah was on his routine gracious space walk. He stopped at the Bank of River Sabarmati

ZAMIN E BAGAYAT FARH NAK DEED

ZU GARDE MAHIN KHAKE OU PAK DEED

HAVAI KE MEIN KARD DISHARA HA VAS

NASIMASH CHUN MUSKE KHUTAN RA NAFS

The land he found was very attractive and pleasant. The dust was cool clean and away from pain or worries. The atmosphere was contented and satisfying to heart. The breathing of air was giving fragrance of China’s Musk.

MAKAM E MUNAZZAH V JAYE LATIF

MAHAL KHUSH V AABO HAWA E LATIF

BA ILHAME GAIBI V HUKM E ILAH

CHUNIN AA MADAH DAR DIL E BADSHAH

KE DAR AAN ZAMIN MARUVAH HAVA

KUNAD TAJ SHEHRI MUAZZAM BINA

The ground was clean and romantic, water was enjoyable and the air was pure. After seeing all the attraction with the grace and hikmat of Allah he thought to have a wonderful city of wonders.

HAMAN LAHZA BANI TALAB KARD SHAH

BA FARMUD TA HAM DARAN JAYE GAH

BASAZAD YAKE SHAHER E AALI ASSAS

KE GOYAND SUKKANE KHA KASH SIPAAS

SAR E KHAK BUS AUJE KHIZRAN BURD

SARIR E BAR AUJE SURAYYA BURD

At the same time he called the technicians and stated to build a capital city at this open airy place. A wonderful city the top of its towering buildings  should be higher then the height of the seven stars .The residents would be proud in congratulating the builders of their marvellous work.

JAHAN RA AASSAS E MUAZZAM DEHAD

Z SAR ZINATO ZAIB AALAM DEHAD

BINA E BARAVAR CHUN KURRATE FALAK

KE HERAN SHAWAD KHIRA CHASHM E MALAK

That give the world magnificent feelings of elegant and beauty of the tall glazing buildings and with the dazzles of which dazzled the eyes of Angels

PA YE DAFA E YAJUJ KEIN DAVARI

KASHAD BAR ZAMIN SE ISKANDARI

KUNAD BAR ZAMIN AASMANI BAYAN

KE KHISTASH BU VAD JAME GAITI NUMA

Sikandar had build a strong tall wall to stop Yajuj & Majuj to make their complaints and he wants to have a tall strong wall on that patent which could be a bridge to hold sky and earth. Its bricks should be like universe. Jamshed the king of Persia had made a Cup in which  he was looking all the places on earth. It was called Jame Jamshed.

Here I would like to quote poetry on similar line by poet “IQBAL” he said:-

TURA AZ NAGMA DAR AATISHE NISHAN DAM

SIKANDAR FITRATAM AAEINA SAZAM.

I am such a kind of Sikandar who for his community making such a mirror in which they would be able to see the state of world’s past, present and future. Similarly Iqbal’s poetries are not just for fun and enjoyment but through his poems he wanted to make you boil and enlighten your ego. For his community he will make a mirror of revolution. .

YAKE MISRI JAMI- E KUNAD AASHIKAR

KE KHAKASH BUDAD AALE CHIN V TATAR

GUBAR E KE KHEZAD ZARAHASH AYAN

KASHAD SURMA DAR DIDA YE ASFIYAN

NISHAPUR RA AZ HASAD JAn RAVAD

KE GUJARAT RASHK E KHURASAN SHAWAD

One such a Misri Jame Masjid should appear so that Chin and Tatar can learn a lesson out of it. And the blowing dust could be used as a Surma by the people of Asphan.  When Nisapur, the famous city of Khurasan, see that the Gujarat is competing with Khurasan will take its breath away in jealousy. Or Nishapur feel shy on seeing the dazzling city of Ahmedabad

CHUN DAR KHATIR E SHAH GARDUN SARIR

NAZAR BAR KUSHADAND AZ HAR TARAF

BA FARMAN E SHAHINSHAHE BAKHITIYAR

BA KARDAND SA ATAY S AD IKHTIYAR

When the Shah got this wonderful imagination he called all the experts, estrologers and pundits who were knowledgeable in astrology and master of universe. After getting all the favourable calculations under the command of Badshah they fixed preferable time for its foundation.

Hijri year 813 month of Zilqad was fixed for inauguration when the builders had risen the buildings then the sky was uttering in praise well done. On its completion it was celebrated with flying crackers.

When the city was raised and populated with the settlers then the earth which was lifeless suddenly become full of life. The look of a new city was like a black mole on a beautiful face of a Nazneen giving more attraction.

When the arrangement of big mohallahs had been completed according to plan by Nasiruddin Ahmed, it seems the universe had not witnessed such magnificent master piece Nagar before. Oh Allah keeps this Alishan city safe from all evils till the end of the world.

BADSHAH SHARIF HAZRAT AHMEDSHA (R.A). He was religious and impartial. No auras or sandal of any Sultan of Gujarat was celebrated but of Ahmed Badshah whose Auras is celebrated every year in his Hajira. On every count he was a good Muslim among all other Sultans of Gujarat. He was practicing Muslim and observing all the obligatory Prayers in its respective times. Even in battle field he used to pray Namaz by getting down from Elephant.

As per Tabkate Akbari and Tarikhe Alvi he died on 4th Rabiul Akhir 846 H. As per Tarikhe Farishta it was 4th Rabiul Awwal 847 H. Ahmed Shah coin was printed up to 846 H. so this may be the right date of his death.

The founder city of Ahmedabad’s 518 Auras. Was organised by Sunni Vakaf Committee and in its function the young poet Janab Farid “Adil” Mansuri had read the following beautiful Nazam on AHMEDABAD.

YAD AATA HAY TERA DAUR E JAVANI MUJ KO

YAD AATI HAY VOH SABAR KI RAVANI MUJ KO

YAD AATA HAY TERI HASTI KA BANI MUJ KO

EIK PATHAR KA MINARA HI LARZTA HAY YAHAN

SHAHERYON KE DILON PER N HUVA KUCH BHI ASAR

AHMEDABAD, MARAY SHAHER, MAIRAY LAKHTE JIGAR

KITNE INSAN HAY JO TAKDIR KO ROTE HAI YAHAN?

KITNAY INSAN HAY JO MOU ASHK SE DHOTAIN HAY YAHAN

KITNAY INSAN HAY JO FOOTPATH PE SOTE HAIN YAHAN

KITNAY INSAN HAY JO BEKAR BHI HOTAY HAIN YAHAN?

FOR HIS IMPARTIAL JUDGEMENT

All the historians had praised for his impartial judgement. The example was driven from Mirate Sikanadri. His son in law Ashraf once in proud of his rank killed an innocent man working in his farm with his wife. Ashraf was on outing with his wife on horse. While both were having a walk near Sabarmati they left their horse free who damaged and eaten away the crops in the field. On seeing this there was an argument between Ashraf and that man... Ashraf said don’t you know that this horse belonged to Shahzadi. On this the man said, so what but this khet did not belong to her and I lost my crops. Ashraf in anger took out his sword and killed him. Sultan had a habit of going in the night for random checking of his subjects. When he reached near by a house, an old lady and his daughter were crying saying that the sultan will not listen to their faryad because he his a Muslim and Ashraf is his son in law. Sultan was surprised to hear the name of Ashraf and had put a cross mark on their door by sword and next day he called that lady in his Durbar and asked the lady to state her complaint without fear. She told whole story. Sultan then asked for witness. She called her daughter and she stated it is better you enquire from Ashraf, who then stated that before two days earlier than our marriage, I and Jamila were on routine walk along the Sabarmati River. We left our horses free. The horses were in his field and he was holding the horses and was abusing so in anger this incident occurred. Then Shah asked that girl to say her side of story. When she was explaining Ashraf intervened and said you Kamini was it not an abuse when her husband said this crops did not belong to her father. On this Shah stopped Ashraf and said it was not an abuse and let her finish her version. Then he called the Qazi .of the city and asked to deal with this case immediately and let him know the out come. Later on Qazi told the Sultan that he had suggested giving 40 camels in settlement of this case. But the Sultan was not satisfied and passed his judgement that he did not want to be lenient to his families otherwise the History will quote him that he was lenient in judgement with his family. He then ordered to hang him in open market for a lesson to every body. He kept the body hanging the whole day. Since then no body had dared to repeat such incidents. He was also known as “Pir Badshah” and his Auras and Sandal still celebrated in his Hajira with “Badshah ka Langer” For such a Pak Badshah our LAKH LAKH SALAM

In a further bid to put Ahmedabad on a par with the best cities in the world, the state government and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation have jointly undertaken an ambitious project to beautify the Sabarmati riverfront.

The project will turn the banks of the Sabarmati in to a swanky hotspot, where locals as well as tourists can enjoy themselves.

A promenade will allow visitors to walk the stretch along the river, while a floating restaurant and garden are also being planned.

The Sabarmati River Front Development (SRFD) project proposes to take up the embankments on both sides of the river along the entire nine km stretch from Subhash Bridge to Vasna Barrage. In addition to the embankment and reclamation works, the project includes the construction of major roads and the creation of infbasic infrastructure. The cost to be Rs.3, 611m (£5m/ $8m)

For pilgrimage to Mecca and Bab-al- Mekka

At the time of yearly dastarbandi’s gathering at Jamiah Hussainia Rander (Surat) Allama Sayyed Suleiman Nadvi had given his famous speech on Tarikh-e Gujarat and ILAM & TAQWA. The article of his speech was published in the monthly magazine Maaraf issued from Azamgarh in 1945. There after 25 years it was re published by Maulana Yusuf Bannori in his monthly magazine Bayanat in September 1970 at Karachi. Hazrat Allama Sayed Suleiman Nadvi, said, in his bayan, that the province of Gujarat and specially Kasbah of Rander (Surat) was famous as a port for pilgrimage to Mekka, and was called as Bab-Al-Mekka.. Before the rise of Bombay as a port, Rander was the gateway for the Hajjis going to Mecca and Medina..

Interested people from Turkistan, Afghanistan, China and Russia were using the same route of two channels of River Tapti and Narbada then through Arabian Ocean to Mecca and Medina. More blessings and prosperities witnessed by coastal towns of Gujarat from the on coming visitors in the shape of intellectuals and scholars of having a vast knowledge of Ilam-e Hadith. The travellers were from Hejaz, Syria, and Egypt preaching the message of Rasulullah s.a.s and settled in Gujarat to spread the essence of Islam.

Only the water was in between keeping separate Arab and Hind other wise the rise of waves from Arabian coast were striking at the other end of Sahil of Gujarat. The Toofan and Valvala of  Ilam-e Hadith was arising from Hejaz, Syria and Misar and landing in Gujarat.. A part from this the last treasure of knowledge of Arts and Crafts, from the last ruler Sultan Asif Khan was transferred to Hejaz where it was prosper widely, At the end of his speech Allama Nadvi said that we must repeat the old history to keep ourselves in the picture:

.TAZA KHWAHI DASHTAN GAR DAGH HAY-E SINARA.

-GAHAY GAHAY BAZ KHAWAN EIN QISSA-E PARINA RA.

Agar tujhe apnay jigar ke ghav ko taza rakhna ho to purani tarikh ko parh

Hazarat Aqdas Qari Maulana Muhammad Tayyab (RA) (Mohatamim of Daruloolum Daoband)

He is known to many of the scholars as well as in general public all around the world. One of his students Maulana Abdul Majid Mirza s/o Abdul Rahim Mirza (Vakeel) of Atodra presented to me a Book in 1988. Volume one. Khutabat-e Hakimul Islam. This Book is printed from collection of all his audio cassettes and presented to the general public. In one of his bayaan on “Oonwaan aur Alfaz ki hifazat ki zaroorat” Necessity to preserve Heading and its Words.

However, the necessities of words are there, because you can easily understand the meaning of Heading. The meaning is hidden in heading. If you change a word the entire meaning of subject will be changed.

Urfi Anwari was one of the great Persian poets. He read out Qaseeda, once in praise of Badshah of Iran and with pleasure he gifted an Arabian horse of high quality with saddle and a bridle quoted in gold and silver. He came home with the horse. He was very poor and unable to feed him grass. The horse died in night time. Anwari thought this horse must be eating Dudh -Jalebi or Grain in King’s stable and I could not gave him that sort of food ,that is why he died with hunger. If Badshah come to know to morrow, the horse is dead already, but he will sure cut my head, that I have not respected his gift. So before he comes to know I will go first thing in the morning and will explain to him. He went and came back with another horse in present. He explained to him in so beautiful words that he came back with another horse. He

said:-

Shah asp-e Banvari Bakhsheed

B’aad-e Sar Sar Ba Gard Oud Na Raseed

Aien Chunie Tez Boud Dar Raftar

Dar Shaba Shab B’aaqibat Mi Raseed

Badshah has given a horse in bakhshish, he was faster than wind and winds have no match against his speed. He was so fast that during the night he left the entire world and crossed in to another world of aakhirat. The speed of horse was limitless. Badshah laughed and gifted another horse. If he has said the horse which you have given me is dead, he would have ordered to kill me by insulting his gift. So it is only a difference of words in subject. Similarly if a son introduce to his father that he is my respected father. Father will think that his son is very dutiful. If he said he is my father, father will think he got lack of respect. But if he introduced by saying he is my mother’s husband. Aray khasam tha to tu dunya mae aaya, so son will get slap from him. Saying was correct but the words in subject were very stupid.

While on this subject let me introduce to you Hazarat Maulana Abdul Majid Mirza Qasmi (RA) son of Abdul Rahim Mirza Vakeel, his mother was from Dungra sister in law of Mustafa Gulab (Hansot). He was a student in Daoband when Qari Tayyab sahib was mohatamim and after taking san’ad he settled in Mumbai since 1953 when his father was a Vakeel in Mumbai and his chacha was a Hakim on Mohammad Ali Road.

Maulana Abdul Majid was known in Mumbai as Hazrat-Ji and his vocabulary in Urdu was wonderful. People thought he was from UP.On every Friday he was invited in various masajid of Mumbai to give bayanat and MashAllah he was a good orator. People of all walks of life come to visit him to get spiritual healing. Dilip Kumar, Mukari, Sanja Dutt, Nadeem Sarvan used to see him for guidance. Once Dilip Kumar came to see him and said he is very much tense and always his head remain heavy. Hazratji gave him a very good remedy saying that “when some have constipation, he takes some medicine to cure his kabz, like wise you got a constipation of your head-aap kae dimag ko kabaz ho gaya hae aur zang lag gaya hae isko sirf Allah SWT ka zikar sae hi dur kiya ja sakta hae. You have too much occupied your mind towards your occupation which need to be cured by Zikar of Allah SWT.You have done enough in your filmy carrier and you need now to lean towards Allah SWT according to Quran and Sunnah, InshAllah, you will get your piece of mind. MashAllah it worked well for Dilip Kumar. Similarly Sanjay Dutt was visiting him when Dutt was under police investigation. Hazratji was a khalifa of Qari Tayyab (RA). He passed away in 1999.Allah oonki bal bal magfirat farmaye Ameen.

Mashaikh-e Gujarat in Darbar-e Nabvi

Hazarat Shaikh Husamuddin (Mutaqi R.A) was a Shagird and Khalifa of Allama Muttaqi Sahib-e Kanzulaamal. It was written in Volume second of Aiyan-ul-Hajaj and Akhbarul Akhyar, that once he asked Nabi-e-karim SAS in Madina Tayyabah, ya Rasoolullah SAS who is the most chosen and beloved person to Allah SWT and to you. He replied, your (1) Shaikh Ali Muttaqi Gujarati (2) Mian Ghaus Bharuchi Gujarati and (3) Allama Muhammad Tahir Patani Gujarati..” goya ke apnay waqat ke ruye zamin ke Ghaus va Qutub and Chosen in the sight of Allah SWT. All were from Gujarat “Alhamdolillah ala zalik”. You can guess easily that at a time Gujarat was a central place in the world for Zikar va Azkar, Ellam va A’mal and Khanqah va Tassawoof.

On the stage of Garden when there was a dignity of rosy flowers there were nightigles in thousands and the garden was full of uproar,  noise and  jollity movements. But when the days of autumn come there was nothing except thorns which was once blossomed with flowers. The Gardner, with sorrow and tearful eyes showing the places which were once blossomed with plants of rosebud and flowers.

The main result and outcome is that we have gathered and picked most famous incidents and happening from the forgotten and hidden Tarikhe Gujarat for the people of the nation and for Millat-e Islamia.

This short and famous incident has been produced in this book for the people in general and for the learned people who should come forward to accept it.

AL HAJ QAZI CHIRAGUDDIN KUTUBUDDIN

Teacher and Headmaster of Anglo Urdu High School, Hansot

NAZARABAD OR NANDURBAR. DIST.DHULIA MAHARASHTRA.

The population is 250,000 over 75 years ago it was a small town, which is a birth place of Qazi Chiraguddin a well known scholar and a through gentleman was born on 30.3.1914 to a poor Qazi family. Who knows that one day he will become a star of Hansot representing Muslim Boarding House Hansot and Anglo Urdu High School Hansot and will bring Hansot in the lime light with his vocal expression and inculcation? With his hard working and vigorous zeal he had passed his Urdu vernacular final in 1932.

For financial reason it was not possible for him to carry out further education and for survival he had joined the local primary school as a teacher

He was married to Razia Begum an elder daughter of a Qazi of Dhulia Moulvi Qazi Jalaluddin. After marriage people hardly continue their study, but Qazi sahib for his vigorous thirst of gaining knowledge led him to a road of progress. Along his work he had continued studying and learning English, which was a must for his future carrier. Accordingly he passed his matriculation exam in 1944 and then joined Anglo Urdu High School Hansot as a teacher. Side by side he kept is study from home and obtained his B.A. degree in 1949 and then M.A. degree in 1952 from Aligarh University. With these qualifications he was appointed Head Master of this school and served in this capacity until 1958.

He was a very good administrator and a man of principle.

These qualities were not suited to some of the jealous people of our community and often had personality clash. The reason was obvious to see his progress as an outsider.

The school was established in the year 1941 with full of ambition and enthusiasm.Mr Mustafa Gulab Sheikh was the founder of this school. Because of this school and associated Hostel, Hansot became centre of education for the Muslims of the area. Every body was keen to see the progress under the leadership of Mr.M.G.Sheikh. There was a flow of talented students emerge from this little corner of Hansot. Also the school was occupied with the students from all over India under the supervision of qualified teachers. Every teacher was a master in his own field.

The Muslim Boarding House had 150 Boarders from District of Surat and Bharuch, Kathiawar, Up, Punjab and South India under the supervision of Qazi sahib. Every boarder was under his control and always remains alert for any wrong doings.

He used to wear wooden sandal and with sound steps goes to every room in the morning to check weather the boys are at sleep or awaken for Morning Prayer. Once I was slapped and roused from my sleep.

At school he used to stand in gallery to watch student’s late arrivals. If you are a late comer and a peon comes to your class room then it was sure you are under fire.

Because of his inherited natural eloquence and association in educational circle he was well known figure in other high schools and the managements of those schools were ready to avail his services, therefore he took this opportunity and joined Khoja Khan Mohammad Habib Bhai High School in Mumbai as a principal until 1958 and then migrated to London where he completed his 2 years degree course of education from Edinburgh University in the year 1960. Then he took academic diploma in education from London University On getting these diplomas of degrees he was a teacher in secondary school until 1974. During this period he obtained his M.A. in education as well.

He made his life always moveable

ALLAH KARE MARHALA-E-SHOQ NA HO THE

By character he was saucy, humorous and always ready to lead community on right path. He was literally a well spoken person. For these qualities he was well known in London as a social worker. He was the person who organised Indian Muslim Federation and was appointed as a chairman.

He was practicing Muslim and had performed Hajj-e-Baitullah in 1968.

It was always in mind his early days of poverty and always providing support to children for their education at his home town in Nazarabad.

He was always saying that man is living for himself but the real life is to live for others and to support the poor and needy.

DARDE DIL KAY VASTE PAIDA KIYA INSAN KO

VARNA TA-AT KAY LIYE KUCH KAM NA THE KARROBAYAN

Whole life the desire and eagerness of getting more knowledge had not spared his health. He was about ready for his LLB and PhD degree but life had not given him support and on 21.11.1974 he passed away in London (Inna lillah e va inna ilaihe rajeun).

In his life Qazi sahib had great affection of children and in fact he composed poetries on children.

Though he had no children but he was patience and contented to Allah and was saying I will be happier among many children of our country rather then two or three own children and as a proof he had a publication of his poetries title:
