Some says that the root is from hansot and other says the elders used to live near area called gorat further down from panjroli via khari a small river near village aneeta. They were facing problems for the people’s burials and the only qabarastan was available on the hilly place called dungar (hill) where a dargha of syed murad bawa was in existence. No other details are available for this dargah.however it is said that most of the pious and sufi shaikhs and sayeds came from iraq. In those days hansot, bharuch, rander and surat were the ports where people from portugal, spain, france and iraq used to come by sea. Sufi came to gujarat to spread islam. Surat was then called bunder e khub surat as this port was used by hajies for pilgrimage to mecca and madina.

The entire muslim population then shifted to this hilly place and named the village dungra.in those days khet or farms or Zamin were available like you give gift on eid to children, it was up to you how much you can manage. Ismail sindi son of hussain mota was saying that request had been made to then mogul rule to transfer the land in the names of the people who were shifted to dungra. At the most names of the family tree of the people of dungra is available approximately from the last 200 years which we have gathered in pieces from elders. Because of lack of education no body had bothered to collect this data 50 years a go otherwise we would have obtained more information.

Although it is a very small village but the settlers were very adventurous and made their ways to big cities like bharuch, surat, ahmedabad and mumbai. Some people have taken their education from hansot, bharuch and surat and gone abroad. Hussain rehmatullah malek and his brother mustafa went to darusalam in east africa. After retirement he was settled in dungra while his sons a doctor, a lawyer and a chartered accountant shifted to pakistan.

This small village had produced bankers, lawyers, doctors,Teachers, accountants railway clerks, station master post master and other civil servants and migrated to Pakistan, Africa, England and Middle East where they are now settled with their respective families. When first people shifted to dungra they thought to have few sayed families also in the village to mark respect to our beloved prophet s.a.w. therefore syed nathu Patel’s family shifted from ambheta to parvat and dungra.

According to the history the moghul king humayun was ruler of delhi empire from 1530 to 1556 and cities of bharuch, surat navsari and patten were under his possession in those days portuguese sailors were active in arabian sea as sea route to india. They arrived with the intention of looting. According to some senior elders of hansot about 10 to 11 Muslims from duccan region arrived by sea arround 1565 and entered in to hansot via alia bait an island close to hansot coast. They were settled on the barren land of western boundry of town and provided gifted lands by the local administration. These Muslims were shaikh, malek, khawaja and Pathan. The maximum period of 3 generations is usually considered one hundred years. According to this theory our ancestors would have arrived and settled in these areas about 400 years ago. The Muslim settlers had a task to guard the coast areas around hansot and provide security to the people of town. The other villages around like telod, katpor, kantyajal, kuradra and kharach and the settlers in these towns were the linage from sultan mahmood ghaznavi after his return from India around 1030 ad. these villages as said were caught in the grip of plague and shifted to hansot or other places for their safety.

The settlers in these areas i.e. Dungra, pandvai, amod kharach Selod hathora, atodra, olpad and most of them in hansot were Plains talkers and with Islamic concepts inspired local non Muslims. They were soon mixed with them and began to speak words and pharases from each other languages to express theirviews to be able to understand by all sections of people. This led to create a strange language contaning words from Punjabi, Sindhi, kutchi, Gujarati and Urdu languages. This mixed zuban become broken Urdu called hansoti zuban...  On first arrival to settle in dungra from near by aneeta it was a great task to establish from the scratch. First and prime important was to have clean drinking water and a pond for their cattle to survive.

WELL AND POND OR TALAB:-

Well was built where the present Bara Talab is existed. Near the well a cess pool was available for drinking to animals. Babar Vasawa was doing the job of fetching water from well and feeling the cell pool. In long hot summer time the water in well was completely dried up therefore the local authority had drilled the well .The water sprang out with tremendous force but it was salty (mola pani) It was around 1938?  That is what Mohammed (Balu Bapu) told me that he was bout 8 year old when he and other youngsters of his age namely Amiruddin, Imam,Hussain Gulab of his age were use to go and see how the drilling was done.

There was always a scarcity of water therefore to get fresh water people used to go to near by village Panjroly by Bullock craft (Bell Gari) with a big Tank to bring water for house use.

PANI;   ZINDGI HAY ISI SE MITTI MAIN    YEHI BABE HAYAT HOT HAY  YEH NA HO TO BHALA HAYAT KAHAN   AAB AAB E HAYAT HOTA HAY

POND or TALAB (Body of Water).

first the only pond was a gaon talab which was first built after shifting from ANEETA. The present qabarastan on the hill is due to the mitti or earth dug out from the ground. The present pal or brink or barrier towards the khet was due to this dug out. Since then this hill near the dargah side is at a slope and not safe to walk around. It should have been flat like a Table Mountain of Cape Town in South Africa. Monsoon rain water flows from all the side through nallies or drains from the side of Pandvai, Sisodra, Gaon ki seri and Obha and goes direct in to gaon talab. In between there was a chabutra or small bait where you can sit around and go on fishing. The present condition of this pond is very worse and full of jungle. No body has bothered to keep it clean. This is the duty of Gram Panchayat to see what is good for their village simply becoming a surpunch is not serving the purpose of keeping the town in order.

Famine in Gujarat in 1899 to 1901 had made life very difficult and there after draught

Made villagers to have big talab, which they built around the present well, serving the increasing demand of water, in long hot summer season. In between a small bait or island was beautiful and had three neem trees but because of lack of  management and know how it was converted to jungle the entire pond is covered with unwanted weeds and plants. Water is very dirty which has been mixed with the well making it very unhygienic for daily consuming. There is no flow and stillness in water with weeds the surface looks green and smelly.

This requires immediate attention by the gram panchayat to keep the healthy environment of the village.

For keeping the village clean and beautiful a General Notice had been issued in year 2004 as under:

All the brothers of the village are hereby informed that in our village we have to have an event to observe for a month to clean the town. For that purpose are you ready?

  2. Don’t you want the dirty water to run through the pipe to the gutter?
  3. Don’t you want your houses to be surrounded with beautiful almonds, dates and coconut trees?
  4. Don’t you want to get rid of the jungly \babul trees and have Henna or other fences instead?
  5. Don’t you want the ponds to be cleaned out and in the centre have a small island with trees and a garden where people can sit and enjoy the water and the cool breeze?
  6. For all these questions if you have no meanings then put a break here! “May Allah bless you”? If your answer is yes then get up now!

Some brothers who have not done anything in their entire life but their views are always negative they say when we do that, this will happen and when we do this that will happen. My sincere request for them is please for God’s sake stop this nonsense and when the opportunity is there grab it.

Remember that well beginning is half done. A word to the wise is enough. I have a request to the Sirpunch of the town to please make YOU available for the benefit of the town. From Abdul Samad Shaikh (UK) 20.6.2004.

THIS GENERAL NOTICE HAS ALSO BEEN SHOWN TO OTHER NON-RESIDENT INDIANS WHO ARE VERY IMPRESSED AND KEEN TO INTRODUCE THIS SCHEME IN THEIR RESPECTIVE TOWNS.THEY SAY BY PANTING FRUIT TREES AND HAVING THESE ACTIVITIES WILL SURE HAVE AN IMPACT IN ALLEVIATION OF POVERTY TO SOME EXTENT INSHALLAH.

Since then what happened Allah knows the best----.
